Blues drop sixth straight game to Schooners
The Blues losing streak continued as the Mystic Schooners defeated Bristol Sunday night at Muzzy Field
The Blues dropped their sixth consecutive game on Sunday as the Mystic Schooners defeated Bristol by a score of 4-1 at Muzzy Field.
The Blues were looking to get back in the win column and snap their six-game losing streak after starting the season 3-0. Bristol got on the board first as Christopher DePrima (Yale) scored Trent Rice (Michigan State) on an RBI sac-fly in the bottom of the third.
The Schooners wasted no time reclaiming the lead in the top of the fourth inning. A costly throwing error by John Hughes (Michigan) allowed Mystic to score an unearned run and tie the game 1-1. Anthony Ruggiero drove in another unearned run with a sacrifice fly to give Mystic a 2-1 lead with both runs in the inning coming unearned. Hughes pitched well with the two unearned runs being the only ones he gave up and he limited Mystic to just one hit across five innings of work.
It remained a one-run game until the top of the eighth inning when Mystic gave themselves some breathing room. Justin Best (Manhattan) was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and Jack Harley (Stetson) singled to drive him in and make it 3-1. Mystic wasn't done yet though. After Harley stole second Bryce Detwiler, (UConn) singled to bring Harley home and make it a 4-1 game.
That lead was enough for the Schooners to hold on for the win as Connor Lane (UConn) slammed the door for the Schooners and Mystic won by a final of 4-1.
Despite only three hits and making three errors, the Schooners found a way to escape Muzzy Field with a win. The Blues out hit Mystic four to three but couldn't capitalize off of the three errors they made. Meanwhile, the Schooners capitalized off the lone error by the Blues which resulted in two unearned runs. Regardless, the Bristol bats were silenced for the majority of the game and recorded zero extra-base hits in the game.
Bristol falls to 3-6 on the season and will look to stop this losing streak as they travel to Massachusetts to take on the Valley Blue Sox tomorrow at 6:30 p.m.
