Blues blow Sharks out of the water in 15-6 victory.
The Blues scored a season high 15 runs in their win over the South Division leading Martha's Vineyard Sharks.
After dropping both games in a doubleheader to the Sanford Mainers on Tuesday, the Blues bounced back with a big win over the Martha's Vineyard Sharks.
Bristol put up four runs in the first inning after three consecutive walks with the bases loaded. The Sharks answered back with three runs in the bottom of the first. A walk with the bases loaded got them on the board and a Nick Barron (Northwestern) single drove home two more runs.
Jack Balcer (Quinnipiac) gave the Blues some breathing room in the top of the third with a two-run home run to make it 6-3. Griffin Crain (Louisville) responded with a solo shot in the bottom of the third to get the Sharks back to within two.
Bristol kept the offense coming in the fifth as they tacked on two more runs to make it 8-4. The Sharks once again had an answer, they got the deficit back to three in the bottom of the fifth.
In the sixth inning, Bristol exploded for six runs. Nick Flores (VCU) tripled to bring in three and Antonio Ducatelli (Fairfield) singled to bring in Flores. Two unearned runs also scored off of a Sharks error in the inning giving the Blues a 14-5 lead.
The Vineyard scored on a sac-fly in the bottom of the sixth but the game was already out of reach. Flores hit a solo shot in the top of the ninth to make it 15-6 which was the final score.
Flores finished the game a double shy of the cycle and had three of the team's 10 hits. Three Vineyard errors also helped, only 10 out of the 15 runs were earned.
15 runs is the most the Blues have scored in a single game so far this season. Bristol made a statement doing it against the team atop the South Division. Bristol is now 11-11 on the season and continues to remain on the cusp of the playoff picture. If the offense can continue to produce like they did in this game paired with the strong arms the Blues are a team to watch out for come August.
The Blues are right back in action at Old Mountain Field in South Kingstown for a matchup against the Ocean State Waves on Thursday. First pitch is 6:30 and the game can be streamed on HomeTeam Network.
