Blues Fall to the Gulls on the Road
The Blues tried to come back in match up against Newport but fall
The Blues fell to the Newport Gulls 10-2. The Blues' season record is now 20-20.
After four scoreless innings for both teams, at the bottom of the fourth, the Gulls got the first run of the game when Ryan Jaros singled to right-center, scoring Colby Wallace. Followed by Devan Zirwas doubling down the right field line, scoring Jaros and Braxton Tramel, giving Newport a 3-0 lead.
The Gulls extended their lead still in the fourth when Ernie Echevarria singled to left-center, scoring Zirwas. To close out scoring in the fourth, Gus Gandy hit a home run to right-center, also scoring Cade Brown, Mason Ligenza, and Echevarria, putting Newport up 8-0.
The Blues came in and started to close the gap at the top of the sixth. Martavius Thomas (University of Arkansas- Pine Bluff) scored after Cal Chance (UMass Lowell) reached on a fielder's choice, which also advanced Mason Breton (LIU Post). Following Breton's score, making it a six-run game, Thomas Zwirecki (Rutgers) singled to right-center, scoring Breton and advancing Chance to second.
The Gulls, however, made it an eight-run game when Jaros reached on a fielding error, scoring Colby Wallace. Jaros scored once again when Ligenza singled to left field, sending Jaros home.
The Blues return to Muzzy on July 28 at 6:30. The Blues will play the North Adams SteepleCats.
