Blues fall short to Mountaineers
The Blues fought a tough battle against the Vermont Mountaineers. The Blues fell short to the Mountaineers on Saturday night with a final score of 12-5
Nick Flores (Virginia Commonwealth University) got the runs started for the Blues at the top of the first inning. Flores scored after Westin Boyle (Purdue University) had a sacrifice fly to center field. However, the Mountaineers tied the game at the bottom of the first 1-1.
Steve Polizzi helped his team get another run after hitting a single to left field and advancing to second after a passed ball. During a wild pitch, Polizzi advanced to third and then later scored on a balk.
The Mountaineers scored seven runs quickly, doing so in three innings to take the lead. The Blues came back, making it a 3-run game at the top of the fifth. Nicholas Francuzenko (Towson University), Antonio Ducatelli (Central Connecticut University), and Boyle scored the Blues' three runs to make the score 7-4.
Ducatelli got the first run of the fifth inning after Polizzi singled to the shortstop. Right after, Francuzenko and Colin Crowley (Winthrop University) wanted to help close the gap. Mason Brenton (LIU Post) singled to left field, allowing both Blues' players to score.
Samuel Bradley (Western Kentucky University), Alex Benevento (Brown University), and Brayden Leonard (Villanova University) were a dynamic trio for the Mountaineers tonight. Bradley, Benevento, and Leonard all scored two runs and combined to score half of the Mountaineers' runs.
Joe Dooley (University of Hartford) was hot on the mound at the bottom of the sixth, having only allowed one hit.
The Blues are now 3-5 for the season. The Blue are back at Muzzy on June 14 at 5 p.m. for Military Appreciation Night. The Blues will face the Mystic Schooners.
