Blues win shutout against SteepleCats
The Blues earned their second win, a shutout, over the North Adams SteepleCats. The Blues defeated the SteepleCats 2-0 and are now 6-7 on the season.
Ty Davis (Bryant University) was a force on the mound right at the start of the first inning. Davis allowed only two hits and struck out eight. Davis struck out two per inning for three straight innings against the SteepleCats.
Davis was not the only one hot on the mound for the Blues. Alex Hwang (Yale University) did not allow any hits or runs and struck out four. James Mulvaney (Fairfield University) ended the final inning on a high note for the Blues, pitching a three-up-three-down frame to seal the Blues' win.
Colin Crowley (Winthrop University) got the runs started for the Blues at the top of the fifth after a sacrifice fly by Chris DiPrima (Yale University). DiPrima flied out to right field, advancing Nick Flores to third and allowing Crowley to score.
Top of the eighth, Nick Francuzenko (Towson University) wanted to further the Blues' lead after Westin Boyle singled. Boyle's single to center field advanced Mason Breton (Long Island University Posy) to second base and allowed Francuzenko to score the Blues' second run of the night.
The Blues defense was locked in, keeping the SteepleCats from scoring any runs, and no errors.
The Blues remain on the road, playing the Danbury Westerners on June 20 and the Martha's Vineyard Sharks on June 21. The Blues return to Muzzy Field for Heart Disease Awareness Night against the Sanford Mainers on June 23 at 6:30.
