Blues earn third straight victory
The Blues defeated the Mystic Schooners, earning their third straight win. The Blues' final score was 9-1. The Blues' record for the season was 9-8.
After three scoreless innings, Scott Gell scored the first run of the night for the Blues. Westin Boyle singled to shortstop, advancing Cal Chance to third and allowing Gell to score. This was followed by a three-run home run by Colin Crowley. Crowley homered to center field, with runs by Boyle and Chance, giving the Blues a 3-0 lead at the top of the fourth.
At the top of the sixth, Crowley and Boyle struck again. Crowley doubled to left field, and Boyle scored, giving the Blues a 6-0 score.
At the top of the seventh, Gell was not slowing down. Gell tripled to right field, and two runs scored on hits by Chris DiPrima (Yale) and Antonio Ducatelli (Fairfield). At the top of the seventh, the Blues extended the lead to 7-0.
The Schooners scored their first run in the bottom of the seventh. However, the Blues responded in the top of the eighth with two more runs. DiPrima singled down the left-field line, advancing JJ Romatzick (University of Hartford) to second and scoring Jack Balcer (Quinnipiac) and Crowley, the Blues' final runs of the night.
Hudson Cavallo (West Virginia) shut down the Schooners. Cavallo allowed only three hits and struck out five. JD Costanzo () followed Cavallo on the mound, allowing only one hit and one run while striking out three against the Schooners.
The Blues return to Muzzy Field on June 27 at 6:30 for Bell City Night, where they will play the Newport Gulls.
