Blues are defeated by Sanford Mainers
The Blues fall to the Sanford Mainers, 5-3, in game two of the doubleheader. The Blues' record for the season is now 10-2.
After a run-less first inning for both the Blues and the Mainers, in the top of the second inning, Justin Ruiz (High Point) gave the Blues the first run of the game. Jack Balcer (Quinnipiac) singled to right field, advancing to second on the throw, allowing Ruiz to score.
Top of the third, the Blues were not done yet. Scott Gell (Stony Brook) singled to shortstop, advancing Colin Crowley (Winthrop) to third and leaving Nick Flores (VCU) to score, making the Blues up 2-0. After Nick Francuzenko (Townson) grounded out to the pitcher, which advanced Gell to second and sent Crowley home, Crowley wanted to extend the Blues' lead.
The Blues' defense went into game two strong, shutting down the Mainers for the first three innings and the last three innings. Kyle Peters (UCONN) recorded his first two strikeouts at the bottom of the second and his third against the first Mainer at the bottom of the third.
Jack Ruditzky (Rider) followed Peters on the mound for the Blues and did not allow a run or a hit, while also recording three strikeouts. Ruditzky recorded his first strikeout to close out the fourth inning. Ruditzky started and finished the bottom of the fifth, adding two more strikeouts.
Five Mainers scored runs, giving the team a lead at the bottom of the fourth.
The Blues will face the Marthas Vineyard Sharks on July 1 at 7:05 at Vineyard Baseball Park. The Blues will return to Muzzy Field on July 3 at 6:30 to play the Sharks again.
